I'm strongly considering getting a frequent flier credit card (either Delta or United). Of course, the most practical advise is to carefully read the terms and conditions of the card. And the partners of the airlines are what I'm considering the most (I'm a young globetrotter). Any other practical advise before I make the commitment? Much appreciated! x

I can’t give you specific advise as I assume you’re based in the US? I’m based in Singapore so the cards available are different. But what I’d say is that its definitely to do some research on which card/s award the most miles per dollar and get it (airlines branded cards are worth looking at but don’t always award the most miles per dollar spent ironically). Put all your normal spend on it (stuff that you would have bought, have to pay for anyway, but don’t go spending more money just to earn miles! that would be very counter productive). You’ll be surprised at how many miles you can end up accumulating this way. I believe you guys in the States regularly have sign up offers with free miles as well, take advantage of those! I earn most of my miles from my credit card, although I do fly quite a bit as well, but the credit card spend exceed that. flyertalk.com is a good forum to research the in’s and out’s of various frequent flyer schemes and anything aviation related, there are some super flyer geeks there that have mastered the system.
